The 2400 powder load was just thrown in to have a load to just shoot and not really prove accuracy or velocity. Some formed from 7.7, some from 06, 8mm-mainly odds and ends-some 06 end up with thick necks-needing turning-I don't like to spend my time that way and several had lube/pressure dents that failed into cracks after a couple of reloads. I'll be interested to see what alloy you use and how yours shoots the coated bullets and the details of what you use-powder wise. I've packed it elk hunting several times, but never had a reasonable shot when I had it-distance wise-maybe this year.It has the as issued sights. 314 I believe, no gas check and run around 190 grains depending on alloy, it's a mold he uses for 303 British, they shoot ok, better than the bullets intended for the 7.62x39 but nothing like the heavier jacketed bullets. The cast bullets are from a friends mold. I've tried jacketed bullets intended for the 7.62x39, but they were so-so, good for a Cottontail's noodle out to maybe fifty yards-about 4" 100 yards. It's very accurate-really shoots well with jacketed bullets in the 180 grain range, although not a ton of selection for. I wanted one from Belgium, as some of my ancestors are from there, but settled for the Argentine, I'm a beggar not a chooser.HA! When you ask if anyone "Has used these or owned a factory so chambered", I wasn't sure what in particular you were referring to. I've shot and reloaded for it quite a lot, both cast and jacketed. I have an 1891 that was one of the ones that were converted to a single band sporter, but also has additionally the original stock and accoutrements. Has anyone used these or owned a factory so chambered? I also have jacketed, but prefer the cast. But I have a few good cast bullet choices. It might be spring before I can get to run ladders and see what it shoots. Today I cast up some test bullets to get me started. It should make a perfect "Deer Rifle" for my hunting. I will taylor my alloy for use with either velocity. Im gonna target 2000 fps but wont fret if 1800 shoots best. Its a GC bullet and in this case thats fine with me. (Ill link those videos below) I measured and found that they dropped near. I checked this bullet out pretty close in a receint video on forming this brass. Im placing high hopes in my Lyman 311284 HP mold. I am going to make it another cast bullet rifle if it shoots well. TO PAINT IT!!! I have painted many stocks thru the years and have done a couple recently that I love the results I have one more RA to paint and I should be ready to paint this one! For a optic I removed the 4x Hawke and installed the Tasco 1.5圆 EURO-Class 30mm. I didnt remember having this stock until I had my hands upon it. (WOW HAVE THESE GONE UP!!!) I have pulled this rifle out and swapped out its scope and stock. I have ordered and I should receive a replacement Timney Sportsmans trigger tomorrow or Saturday. But recently decided to just keep it as is. I have planned on making this a 6.5x55 then changed to a 257 Roberts. I robbed the Timney Sportsmans trigger for my 7mm Mag Inter-arms two years ago. My Sporterized 1909 has been in pretty much this state for over a decade. Its gonna be restricted to light cast loads. This last one deserves respect because I have learned its a really early old gun. I have had eight of these guns!!!! Five have been converted to other calibers one was sold to my Cousin and one more remains this caliber but has been sporterized and the last is a 1889 Belgium. Can be loaded to compete with most all modern cartridges. But the 1909 and absolutely the Winchester and Ruger. Unfortunately the 1889 & 1891 Mausers do NOT FALL into that strong modern rifle category. Strong Bolt you sure can improve those numbers a bit. But its still a tad long for a true short action.īoth Winchester and Ruger chambered factory rifles. Its a bit shorter then its cousins the 7, 8 & 9x57 Mausers.
